About Us

About the film festival

The original idea of the Human Rights Human Dignity International Film Festival is to connect film and human rights. Its core mission is to promote human rights awareness in Burma/Myanmar by using the power of film, the persuasive strength of audiovisual communication (the “seeing is believing” factor) and to create a space for encouraging human rights discussions amongst the general public in Burma/Myanmar. The Human Rights Human Dignity International Film Festival will be held in Yangon from June 15 till June 19. The film festival is dedicated to Aung San Suu Kyi who played an integral role in promoting issues of human rights in Burma/Myanmar. In her honor, the film festival awards ceremony is scheduled on her birthday, 19 June. The film festival is held under the patronage of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Min Ko Naing.

At the film festival we will screen Documentary films in the International Competition section, and Documentary, Short and Animation films in the National Competition section.

HRHDIFF has categorized three awards for the best documentary film, the best short film and the best animation film. Titles for three awards are given as Aung San Suu Kyi Award, Min Ko Naing Award and March13 Award.

Honoring the university students who fell during the 1988 uprising for demanding fundamental human rights, HRHDIFF includes a title for one award as March13 Award. March13 is the date which is widely recognized as human rights day in Burma/Myanmar.
